White Christmas

Caroling Christmas Card Hop - January 2024

Good day, fellow crafters. Today I present my submission to the Caroling Christmas Cards Hop on Instagram (@forgetmenotcardco). The purpose of this hop is to create holiday cards year-round but with the twist of being inspired by some of our favorite Christmas music. We will be selecting two songs each month as the inspiration for our design theme. Please message @amritapettus on IG for more info if you’d like to join us.

For January the playlist songs are White Christmas or Santa Claus is Coming to Town and I chose White Christmas. I hope you enjoy.

To create the background panel for this card I first began with some white cardstock, ink-blending brushes, and Distress Oxide inks in the colors Seedless Preserves and Broken China. I used the Seedless Preserves around the perimeter of the background first to frame the panel which visually pulls the viewer’s eye to the center of the card. I used the Broken China in the center as a contrasting lighter shade so if ever the eye wanders too far to the edges it’s pulled back to the center. These two colors work well together and provide a very soft color pallet.

The next step was to create the focal point of the card. Using some white glitter cardstock and the Poppystamps snowflake die, featured left, I cut out this cover die with my Gemini die-cutting machine. The die itself is roughly 4 x 5, so I used my closest Hero Arts rectangular nesting die to also cut the background panel down to its final dimensions and then with Bearly Arts liquid glue, adhered the pieces together. I then adhered the composite to a white card base using double-sided tape.

The last step was to create the sentiment. I chose to use the “Merry Christmas” sentiment from the Gina K Blizzard stamp and die set, featured right. I color-matched a piece of pink cardstock as closely as possible to the background panel, and then with VersaMark watermark ink and WoW! White embossing powder I stamped and heat set the sentiment. I then used the corresponding die to cut out the sentiment and adhered it to the background panel with liquid glue. With that, I called the card complete.
